Check student work

At the bottom of each lesson page, open For teachers: post this lesson in Classroom and choose Copy classwork post or Copy homework post. Paste it into a Classroom assignment worth 10 points. It links straight to that step and tells students how to turn in. The lecture in Present ends on a classwork slide, and its teacher notes hold the same links.

When a student finishes, Download my work gives a PDF of all their answers and their writing, named for the step and lesson (never the student), such as classwork-what-makes-a-computer.pdf. They attach that PDF in Classroom, or a Google Doc when the download does not work. I turned it in on Classroom is only the student’s own note; Classroom’s lists say who turned in. Paper and PDF in each step explains working on paper and offers an empty sheet, a PDF of that student’s own version: they type the answers into the step, which checks them, or, if you allow it, attach photos of the paper for you to check by hand. Open the assignment’s Drive folder from Classroom and download the files.

Check student work reads the work inside those lesson PDFs, and text, Word and Drive zip files. A photo or scan of paper is listed for you to check by hand. Confirm each student, choose one file per student and review their writing before sending scores. The last step lists who has not turned in yet or needs a fresh copy, so you can remind them before you mark Missing. Delete downloaded copies after sending scores, following district policy.

Move grades into PowerSchool

  1. 1

Step 1: Add your classes once

    Save a starting class list.
    CSV
    1. In PowerTeacher Pro, choose the class and open any assignment in Grading → Assignment List.
    2. Click the gear, then Export Score Template. Save it without opening or changing it.
    3. In Teacher tools → My classes, add that file. Check the class name and students before saving.

    Open My classes

For each send, we recommend adding the assignment’s Score Template for each class in step 1. GradeBridge checks the saved list each time a template is added; you choose Update or Keep when it differs. Templates are optional. Which students a template includes has not yet been checked in a live PowerTeacher Pro.

Ready when: your classes appear in My classes.

  2. 2

    Step 2: Get your grades

    Choose your source.
    38

A CSV is a spreadsheet file ending in .csv.

    Where are your grades?

    Google Classroom
    1. At classroom.google.com, choose the class, then Classwork and the assignment.
    2. Click the number over Turned in or Assigned to open Student work.
    3. Missing or past-due work gets a draft 0 by default. Check each zero before downloading.
    4. Reported issue, not verified here: excused work may export as 0. Check against your originals.
    5. Click Settings (gear) → Download these grades as CSV.
    A Google Forms quiz
    1. In the Google Forms quiz, click Responses → Individual.
    2. Give points for every question Forms could not grade, then Save for each student.
    3. Click Responses → Link to Sheets.
    4. In Sheets: File → Download → Comma-separated values (.csv). (Check on your screen)
    5. Check for names or emails and Score. Scores like 35 / 40 are accepted.
    6. Repeated submissions stay in the file; you choose which counts in GradeBridge.
    Excel or Google Sheets
    1. Use one student-name or number column and one assignment-score column.
    2. Keep student numbers as text, including leading zeros: 001234, not 1234.
    3. Excel: add the .xlsx file as it is. Each filled-in visible sheet is read as its own file.
    4. Sheets: File → Download → Comma-separated values (.csv) for this assignment’s tab. (Check on your screen)
    5. Sheets downloads only the selected tab; keep the original spreadsheet.

    Blank or zero?

On paper or not typed up yet
    1. In GradeBridge, choose the assignment and classes, then continue to Scores.
    2. Choose Type scores beside the class. Leave a cell blank if it is not graded; type 0 only for a real zero.
    3. Choose Use these scores. Typed scores are never saved and stay only on this page: reloading or closing it clears them.
    4. Prefer a spreadsheet? Use Make a grading sheet, import Student Num as Text, enter scores and save as CSV.

    Make a grading sheet

    Blank or zero?

Ready when: you have a grades .csv, or are ready to type scores.

  3. 3

Step 3: Send scores in GradeBridge

    Assignment → Scores → Check & download.
    ?
    1. Recommended: in PowerTeacher Pro, open the assignment → gear → Export Score Template, once for each class you are sending.
    2. In GradeBridge step 1, add all those templates together. They fill the assignment details and check each saved class list. If a list differs, review the named students and choose Update or Keep my saved list.
    3. Or choose your classes and type the assignment name and points. Confirm they match PowerSchool. The template check is optional; Check & download says which lists were not checked.
    4. On Scores, add your grades file or type scores for each class. Confirm the columns and which class each file belongs to.
    5. On Check & download, decide unclear names, duplicates and blanks yourself. Review every flagged score.
    6. Check your answers, then Download one file for each class. Choose Score Template unless your import refuses it.
Example: a 40-point quiz Invented students.
    • Avery SampleFile: 35 → Prepared: 35
    • Jordan ExampleFile: 0 → Prepared: 0, a real zero
    • Morgan PracticeFile: blank → Prepared: blank, not a zero

    Several classes or assignments?

Choose all the classes for the same assignment. Download and import a separate file for each class. For a different assignment, start a new send.

Ready when: you have downloaded the reviewed file for each class.

  4. 4

    Step 4: Import and check

Use the same class and assignment.
    CSV

You import the file yourself. GradeBridge cannot see, change or undo PowerSchool grades.

    Score Template

    1. In PowerTeacher Pro, open that class.
    2. Choose that assignment in Grading → Assignment List.
    3. Click the gear, then Import Scores.
    4. Browse Files: choose your downloaded file.
    5. Format: PowerTeacher Score Template. Turn on Validate Student Names if available.
    6. Click Next; open any alert icon.
    7. Choose whether to keep or overwrite existing scores. (Check on your screen)
    8. For scores above the maximum, choose existing score or maximum. (Check on your screen)
    9. Click Import, then open the Scoresheet.

    Simple CSV

    1. In PowerTeacher Pro, open that class.
    2. Choose that assignment in Grading → Assignment List.
    3. Click the gear, then Import Scores.
    4. Browse Files: choose your downloaded file.
    5. Format: CSV. The first row holds the headings.
    6. Match the columns: student number is Student Number, the score is Score. (Check on your screen)
    7. File Score Type: the same as the assignment (points or percent). (Check on your screen)
    8. Turn on Validate Student Names if available. Click Next; open any alert icon.
    9. Choose whether to keep or overwrite existing scores. (Check on your screen)
    10. Click Import, then open the Scoresheet.

    Check the result

    1. Gear → Export Score Template, including scores. (Check on your screen)
    2. Compare with your originals: a high score, a low score, a blank and every changed row.
    3. Min Entry marks scores your school’s minimum-score policy may have raised. Check those scores.
    4. If scores differ, stop. Do not import again. Check class, assignment, reporting term and import settings.

Ready when: scores match your originals, including blanks and zeros.

A live PowerTeacher Pro import is not yet verified. The Simple CSV import has not been tried in a live PowerTeacher Pro import. Test one assignment and check every result before using it for more classes.

Fix a problem

GradeBridge cannot see, change or undo PowerSchool grades.

I can't find Import, or it won't let me
Check in PowerSchool
Check that you can edit scores for this class and assignment. A class or term may be locked; ask the person who manages PowerSchool at school.
Found in your file
If a file was rejected, use Check a grade file to review the file itself. This cannot check your PowerSchool permissions.

Check a grade file

Some students weren't found
Found in your file
Check the supplied files for student-number and class-list problems. A spreadsheet may have changed a number; do not guess or invent a replacement.
Check in PowerSchool
Confirm the class and assignment, export the correct Score Template, then start again with your original grades.

Check a grade fileSend scores to PowerSchool

Scores look too high or too low
Found in your file
Compare the supplied files and check points versus percent against the template’s Points Possible. Prepare again only after confirming units.
Check in PowerSchool
Check the assignment maximum and import options against your originals. Stop if the result differs.

Compare two grade filesSend scores to PowerSchool

Some students have no score
Found in your file
Review whether the original score is blank or the student was unmatched. Blank is not zero, missing, late, or exempt.
Check in PowerSchool
Check the student’s score and the import’s blank and existing-score choices against your originals.

Check a grade fileCompare two grade files

I imported into the wrong class or assignment
Check in PowerSchool
Stop. Don't import again on top. Correct it in PowerSchool first, by hand or with your school contact. GradeBridge cannot undo it. Then start over with the right class and assignment.

Send scores to PowerSchool

I changed scores and need to send them again
Found in your file
Compare two grade files to see exactly what changed. Keep the before-import copy; it is not an undo file.
Check in PowerSchool
Confirm the destination and review existing-score choices before importing again. Check the result afterwards.

Blank is not zero

  • Leave cells blank for no score yet. Type 0 only for a real zero.
  • GradeBridge never converts one to the other.
  • Missing, Late, Exempt and comments are not imported; set them by hand in PowerSchool.

Where your files go

  • Files are read in this browser, not uploaded. Downloads stay on your computer.
  • Reloading or closing clears unsaved scores. Saved classes stay in this browser; anyone using this browser profile can see them.
